What is Pace?
The Pace Calculator computes your running or walking pace from distance and time. Pace is expressed as minutes per kilometer (min/km) or minutes per mile (min/mile) — the standard metric used by runners worldwide.
Knowing your pace helps with: race planning (can I finish a marathon in under 4 hours?), training zones (easy run vs tempo vs interval pace), comparing performance across different distances, and setting realistic race goals.
Common race paces: 5K (5:00-7:00 min/km for recreational runners), 10K (5:30-7:30), Half Marathon (5:45-8:00), Full Marathon (6:00-8:30). Elite marathon pace is about 2:55-3:00 min/km.
Formula
Pace = Total Time / Distance Speed = Distance / Time
Conversions: 1 mile = 1.60934 km Pace (min/mile) = Pace (min/km) × 1.60934
Example — 10 km in 50 minutes: Pace = 50/10 = 5:00 min/km Pace = 5:00 × 1.609 = 8:03 min/mile Speed = 10/(50/60) = 12 km/h = 7.46 mph
Race time estimates at common paces: 5:00/km → 5K: 25:00 | 10K: 50:00 | HM: 1:45:21 | FM: 3:30:42 6:00/km → 5K: 30:00 | 10K: 1:00:00 | HM: 2:06:25 | FM: 4:12:50 7:00/km → 5K: 35:00 | 10K: 1:10:00 | HM: 2:27:30 | FM: 4:55:00
How to use this Pace Calculator?
1. Enter the distance in km (5K = 5, 10K = 10, Half Marathon = 21.1, Marathon = 42.195). 2. Enter your time in hours, minutes, and seconds. 3. See your pace in min/km and min/mile, plus speed in km/h and mph.
You can also use this in reverse: if you know your goal pace and distance, calculate the target time.
