What is Cat Age?
The Cat Age Calculator converts your cat's age to human equivalent years. Like dogs, cats age rapidly in their first two years — a 2-year-old cat is roughly equivalent to a 24-year-old human. After that, each cat year equals approximately 4 human years.
Cats are remarkably long-lived compared to dogs. Indoor cats typically live 12-18 years, with many reaching their early 20s. Outdoor cats average 10-14 years due to risks from traffic, predators, diseases, and weather. The oldest recorded cat, Creme Puff from Texas, lived to 38 years (equivalent to about 168 human years).
Cat life stages: Kitten (0-6 months), Junior (7 months-2 years), Prime (3-6 years), Mature (7-10 years), Senior (11-14 years), Super Senior (15+ years). Each stage has different nutritional and healthcare needs.
